King of Pop Music In Bangladesh ''Azam Khan'' died





Bangladeshi pop singer Mahbubul Haque Khan, popularly known as Azam Khan, died of throat cancer Sunday, (5th june 2011) at the age of 61 at square hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

He was the pioneer in Bengali pop music launching and founded a band called "Uchcharon" with a literal meaning of "Enunciation" in the early 1970s. He is honored as ''Father of Pop Music'' in Bangladesh.

'We have lost a great friend of our cultural circle. It is an irreparable loss in our national life,' said Fakir Alamgir, also a popular Bangladeshi singer.

He was a renowned freedom-fighter who fought against the Pakistani army in the Liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971. After the war, he introduced an energetic brand of music. His first concert in television was broadcast in 1972 in Bangladesh Television. His popular tunes include "Ore Saleka, Ore Maleka", "Jibone Kichhu Pabona Re", "Ami Jare Chaire", "Ashi Ashi Bole Tumi", "Obhimani", "Rail liner bostite..", "Hei Allah Hei Allah Re",'' Alal o Dulal''etc. He also performed in two Bangladeshi films.

He was survived by his wife, two daughters, a son and numerous admirers.
